Glanteenassig Forest Park is located at the foot of the Slieve Mish Mountains and covers an area of 450 hectares. Visiting to Glanteenassig in the early hours of the day is particularly attractive when the two lakes Loughs Slat and Lough Caum lying quiet and peaceful surrounded by a dense forest and tranquil mountain scenery.
An almost magical light falls through the trees on the mossy forest ground and in the silence around you, it’s not hard to imagine that elves and other mythical creatures could come across.
There is a fine walk around Lough Slat that leads on paved way along the lake and through the woods. The lake itself is a veritable paradise for anglers and shelters a large population of rainbow trout.
Glanteenassig Woods & Lough Caum is a easy to moderate 2 hour walking route on paths through the woods plus a great scenic loop of Lough Caum on mostly boardwalks to protect the delicate terrain. There are a selection of picnic areas dotted around the site to be enjoyed.
This walking route is only a short drive from Mount Brandon Hostel. There are also many other walks in the area, including the famous Mount Brandon.
